Baptism
The baptism of children
is possible because of the faith of the adult community. Children
do not profess faith themselves. “They are baptized in
the faith of the church. This faith is proclaimed for them by
their parents and godparents, who represent both the local church
and the whole society of saints and believers.” (Rite
of Baptism for Children, #2)
The faith of the children is dependent and complete, needing
time and support to come to maturity. It is a faith, a journey
of initiation, especially dependent on the parents’ faith
and sincerity.
Before
the celebration, it is important that parents prepare
to take part in the rite with understanding. Parents
wishing to have their child baptized, are required to
attend a Baptism Preparation class at Newman.
Baptism preparation by appointment. Baptism Preparation Classes will be held at the Newman Center. Please
call the office to register for a baptism prep class
with Carol
and Michael Hubbard (697-7647).
